JD Twitch and JG Wilkes (AKA Keith McIvor and Jonnie Wilkes) first started the Optimo (Espacio) parties with a Sunday night residency at Glasgow’s Sub Club away back in 1997. Now two decades later they are marking the milestone with a one day summer festival in the Galvanizer’s Yard next to Glasgow’s SWG3. This is the first party to be held in the Galvanizer’s Yard and will run from 2pm till 11pm on Sunday (obviously) the 6th of August.
The festivals line up so far still places a large emphasis on live acts, just as they have done over the past 20 years with their expansive and eclectic club night. The acts announced so far to play live are K-X-P, Miss Red + The Bug, Aurora Halal, Errorsmith, King Aysioba and Happy Meals. They have pulled in equally as impressive DJ sets as well, with Ben UFO, Midland, The Black Madonna, Avalon Emerson, Sofay, Apeiron Crew and Optimo themselves.
The festival will use the new space to put on 3 separate stages of music which they feel “represents the music and ethos Optimo has loved and championed over the years”. Their own beliefs of internationalist equality has always been evident from the guests booked to the affordable pricing of tickets, only available on the door giving everyone an equal chance to dance. Optimo have been using their nights to tackle some of the social issues Scotland currently faces, using previous ticket sales to raise funds for Glasgow foodbanks, the “Optimo Rave Against Racism” parties and stepping up again with Optimo 20 a portion of the profits will go to “Glasgow’s Coalition For Racial Equality & Rights & to various Glasgow Foodbanks”.
Tickets for Optimo 20 go on sale on Thursday 23rd of February at 9am sharp on TicketWeb (via the link <<). There will be 200 early bird tickets at £30 and then up to £35 and £40.
It’s capped at 3000 people for this one and tickets won’t hang around so move fast!
